URBAN MONTESSORI INSTITUTE ENROLLMENT PHILOSOPHY
Dr. Maria Montessori believed that education begins at birth (or before) in the loving environment of the child’s family. By the age of 2 ½ most children are ready to lean the routines of school and begin to develop relationships with people outside of their families. The overriding goals of the Montessori Primary program are order, concentration, coordination and independence. By being able to concentrate for a length of time on an activity, being able to choose work independently and put it away, by having the coordination to use manipulatives and eventually write and draw, and by having an orderly way of solving learning problems, the Montessori child is ready for all future learning. At UMI, this is our dream for all children.
ENROLLMENT STEPS FOR NEW STUDENTS
A parent contacts Forest Park Montessori to request information or set up an initial visit. Information on Montessori education, observing in the classroom and current tuition costs are given to the family.
The first visit and tour, typically between 9-11 a.m., is recommended for parents only and will give you a chance to see our school in action, to see if it’s a good match for your family. Please call 314-535-6873 or 314-623-8119 if you need to schedule or cancel your visit.
Next, the child’s classroom experience is scheduled - please note that this is not an “audition” to join our school. We welcome all children. However, it is a chance for our teachers to see your child interact with our current students and to note what schedule, start date, etc. will best serve your family. At the end of this visit, parents are given an application, health form, schedule request and other materials.
Parents complete application materials and drop off or mail to: Forest Park Montessori, 2109 S. Spring Ave., St. Louis, MO 63110, Attn: Admissions
Your application is complete when it contains:
Application form (standard for the state of Missouri)
A “schedule request” sheet to let us know when you’d like your child to attend
Medical form (standard form issued by the state of Missouri) signed by your child’s medical provider and with shot records attached
Request for Financial Aid Form, due by April 1 (if applicable)
A $100 application fee. We will only cash this check when we have admitted your child. Refundable until 30 days before child’s first day of school.
